Sacred Harp Singing

Tis the season for Portland Sacred Harp’s Pacific NW Sacred Harp Singing Convention. This free event, is in its 28th year and open to all ages.

A two hundred year American folk tradition of a capella, four-part harmony community singing known as shape-note, or Sacred Harp singing, the Harp refers to the human voice and no harps or instruments are involved in this music. It’s raucous, exuberant music unaccompanied, uninhibited.

All levels welcome, including those with no music background. Songbooks are available to borrow. A free potluck dinner is provided at noon each day. The Sacred Harp is not affiliated with any religious or political organization, denomination or creed.

Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20, from 9 am-3 pm at The Laurelhurst Club, 3721 SE Ankeny St. See portlandsacredharp.org
