February Artichoke Folk Feb 3
February 3, 2019
• Banjo enthusiasts take note! Danny Barnes, Texas native, master banjo player and one of bluegrass’ most distinctive and innovative performers is known for approaching the banjo in a completely different way. With an encyclopedic musical vocabulary, Barnes’ own style of blending different sounds is truly unique, expressive and virtuosic.
He’s offering banjo workshops each Sunday afternoon in February with intimate concerts afterward the same evening with his talented friends. February 3, Barnes is with cellist Gideon Freudmann, February 10, with Kate Power and Steve Einhorn, February 17, with Jon Neufeld and February 24, with Jesse Withers. See dannybarnes.com.
• Communitarian songwriter/teacher Matt Meighan presents two kinds of music this month – a concert and a workshop (mattmeighan.com).
The Saturday, February 9 concert features Meighan as part of the Metolius quartet along with Halelupe, Dale Jones and Richey Bellinger, all seasoned voices. They play as a band, and provide accompaniment to each other. Music begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15.
The workshop is Sunday, February 10, 10 am-4 pm. Meighan’s songwriting workshops explore the beauty of a well-written song from a unique point of view. Express your truth in song with time-tested tools to enhance creativity and hone your craft in writing, voluntary sharing and respectful listening. Come away with inspiration, song ideas, and tools for starting and finishing songs. Register at tinyurl.com/y8gtdsbo.
