gallery 6 pdx ‘Liz Cohn: New Assemblage’
March 6, 2013 - March 31, 2013
Portland artist Liz Cohn displays an exciting new group of mixed media assemblage. The assemblages are often raw and rustic, sparsely populated with porcelain birds, wood block letters, rusted metal what-nots and odd salvaged discards.
Drawing influence from greats such as Joseph Cornell and Kurt Schwitters, Cohn’s assemblages are a variety of wall mounted boxes and panels, and free standing sculptural works.
Cohn has exhibited her mixed media work nationally and globally for over 20 years. Cohn joined 12×16 gallery in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood, 7 years ago. In 2010 she was a featured artist in the book ‘Master’s Collage: Major works by Leading Artists’. In November of 2012, Cohn launched gallery 6 pdx, located at 131 NE 6th Avenue between Couch and Davis streets. The gallery focuses on collage, mixed media and assemblage, and each month, works by local or national guest artists fill the walls of the gallery. This is the first show of Cohn’s new assemblage work in gallery 6 pdx.
