Bookbinding & Journal Making Workshop

Having a space to put your thoughts on paper is important many artists, writers and scientists keep journals to keep track of their work and daily lives. In this class, we will work to make our own customized journals, diaries and sketchbooks. We will learn simple bookbinding techniques with common materials that can be made again and again at home. We will also talk about the importance of journaling and look at examples of different custom designed books. This class is run in collaboration with the IPRC. For teens in grades 6-12. Choro da Alegria Plays the Beautiful Melodies of Brazil

Choro da Alegria is a Portland-based ensemble dedicated to playing the wonderful melodies of Brazil. They draw much inspiration from the genre “choro” (also called chorinho) which has been loosely called “Brazilian ragtime.” Besides choro, they include classic tunes from Bossa Nova and Musica Popular Brasileira (MPB). Made possible by The National Endowment for the Humanities Fund of The Library Foundation.
