Obonfest is a traditional summer Japanese festival. Its attendees are young and old, from all cultural backgrounds. Rich local and international tradition – it is an event that is accessible to all attendees through lively community dance, Taiko performances, raffles, and delicious Japanese food. Adults over 21 can enjoy a beer or sake and watch the dancers who celebrate their ancestors as well as the life that has been passed to them.
Free bon odori dance classes are provided at the Oregon Buddhist Temple in July to prepare attendees for the fun. All are welcome. Please see the website for more participation details and photos of last year’s event.
