LATCHO DROM, the unforgettable film by Tony Gatlif tells of the migration of the Rom people westward across Europe with music, dance and virtually no dialogue. It screens Wed. July 3 at the Bagdad Theater, 3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd. A fundraiser for Festival Romani- a celebration coming in August of Gypsy music and dance from around the world. Doors open at 4:30 pm with a silent auction and raffle for a Flamenco guitar. The film starts at 6 and all ages are welcome.$10 at Bagdad Theater box office or online.

 

JAM: JULY SUMMER WORKSHOPS PROGRAMS from Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark St. From July 8 -18 celebrate summer by embracing your creative spirit! Sign up for creative, hands-on classes for adults led by Milagro staff and artists with subjects like piñata-making, Mexican food, Tango and others. Classes are $5 dollars. STARFISH STUDIOS SUMMER ROCK CAMP, a week-long workshop where students are placed in bands with musicians of similar ages and skill levels. It’s an opportunity to learn and play songs as a group . Class materials including music and lesson sheets are provided; 4 classes per day feature instrument training, performing, recording, music theory and more; a guest vocal artist masterclass; access to professional instruments and amplifiers, strings, sticks, guitars, drums, keyboards, pianos and more. 3 LEG TORSO’s post-Independence Day celebration at Tony Starlight’s, 3728 NE Sandy Blvd, is Friday July 5, with special guest, Bill Marsh  of the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Ben Darwish, Halie Loren, and The Shook Twins. A full evening of revelry and musical fireworks is planned. Bring noisemakers and friends and family members. 21+ over. Tickets are $13 at the door and reservations are encouraged. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF SING-ALONG by Congregation P’nai Or is at the Clinton Street Theater, Sunday, July 21 at 2 pm (doors at 1:30 pm with the sound of the congregation’s youth fiddlers). Wear your best for the costume contest. Sample gluten-free Yiddish noshes. BRITISH ARTIST LUCY SKAER is featured artist at Yale Union, 800 SE 10th Ave,, through mid-September. From approximately 24 tons of lithographic limestone quarried from northeastern Iowa, Skaer will create site-specific sculptures for installation taking the entire second floor of the Yale Union building.
