HBBA Pres.: Hilda Stevens
Board meeting: Second Wed. at 8 am
Fred Meyer, SE Cesar Chavez Blvd & Hawthorne 503.775.7633
It was very exciting to have such a beautiful day and see so many people on Hawthorne for the 2013 Street Fair – over 15,000 according to our semi-scientific count! Our trusty mascot, Mr. Raccoon, was there – on his pogostick and blowing bubbles. I wonder what he’ll be doing next year?
The music was grand, many businesses were in the street, along with visiting vendors and food vans, which created a great festival atmosphere. It was great to have two groups from our own District on the stage to start and finish the line-up: The New Iberians and the School of Rock Performance Band.
Next year, we are excited at the promise of a full street closure for the event! Thank you to Bazi’s, Lagunitas, and HotLips Pizza for hosting the after-party for the many wonderful volunteers without whom we could not have made it happen.
Our next event on the Boulevard will be the Hawthorne Holiday Stroll Saturday, December 7 and we’re looking for local schools’ choirs and bands to entertain our community and help create a holiday atmosphere. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a group that is interested in being part of this event.
