Portland Nursery’s two-weekend event has over sixty varieties of apples and pears to taste and fun activities for the whole family.
The big red apple balloon will again be flying over Portland Nursery on Stark to announce this annual apple-tasting event. Many varieties will be for sale for only 99 cents per pound.
Friday the tasting lines are open. There will be cider press demonstrations happening throughout the day, and a few activities for kids (but note October 18 is Field Trip Day, and there will be hundreds of school kids here between 10 am and 2 pm).
Saturdays and Sundays are the full-on festival days. Along with tasting apples, there will be something for everyone in the family:
Live Music – Two local bands take to the stage in the music tent each weekend day. This year’s lineup includes Little Sue and Lynn Conover, Mood Area 52, and Stolen Sweets.
Kid’s Events – The kids’ tent will be busy with a variety of hands-on activities and crafts for kids including face-painting and a scavenger hunt.
Fresh-pressed cider – It wouldn’t be apple tasting without Wild Bill’s Cider Press demonstration. Ongoing throughout the event, you’ll have a chance to see how it’s done and taste the results.
Food Drive – Bring non-perishable food to the Impact NW table, and get a chance to win one of three $25 Portland Nursery gift cards while helping your neighbors in need at the same time.
Photo Contest and Scarecrow Contest – Enter for the chance to win fabulous prizes, and select a non-profit or school garden program to receive $500 from co-sponsor Whitney Farms. Get your fifteen minutes of fame.
A percentage of sales of apples and pears will go this year to benefit Elders in Action.
