BCA Elections This Month!! On Thursday, June 12th, 7:30 pm, the Buckman Community Association Board Elections will take place in the Multnomah County Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
There are several open slots available for new candidates. Those interested in serving on the BCA Board must be residents, business or property owners, work in the neighborhood or have some compelling engagement or interest in Buckman. Both one and two-year terms are available, and candidates generally agree to attend one meeting night per month and serve on a Board or ad hoc committee. If you are considering getting involved and have any questions, please contact the Board directly buckmanboard@googlegroups.com. Someone will write or phone in return to help you find out more about the process and term commitment. If your interests include land use, transportation (including parking), events, community networking, sustainable practices or historical preservation, the BCA is for you! The BCA would not exist without members willing to serve and give their time, so please consider running! The service is enjoyable, interesting, a solid learning experience and resume builder, and you’ll make some great new friends.
The BCA Land Use and Picnic Group Meetings will both be held on Thursday June 19, 7 pm at Multnomah County Board Room. All are welcome!
Volunteers and donations are needed to help with the 5th Annual Buckman Picnic in the Park, to be held Sunday, August 10th, 4 – 8 pm at Colonel Summers Park. We need people to serve food, help with kid’s activities, do art, run the community booth, set and clean up. The event will feature live music, free children’s activities, bouncy castle, door prizes from local businesses and a complimentary, delicious grilled lunch! The picnic is all volunteer, costs about $2,500 to produce and sponsors are needed and welcome. Donations for cash and in-kind items are fully tax-deductible. If you haven’t been to the BCA Neighborhood picnic, plan to attend. It’s awesome! Contact the BCA to volunteer, buckmanboard@googlegroups.com. Donations can be mailed directly to Southeast Uplift, 3534 SE Main St. Portland, 97214. Checks made out to “SEUL for Buckman Picnic 2014”. Thank you!!
