BCA picnic needs you. This fun, all inclusive, all volunteer event celebrates its 5th anniversary this summer. The free picnic features live music, door prizes, kids activities, a delicious and free BBQ lunch, bouncy castle, fire truck, art projects, and local neighborhood non-profit booths. This year we hope to have the famous, “Belmont Goats” on site for viewing and visiting.  We need volunteers to help with food serving, set up, clean up and more. Volunteering shifts are generally only one or two hours and your service will be gratefully appreciated. We need to cash to help support the picnic. Donations are completely tax-deductible. Send checks to “Buckman Picnic” c/o SE Uplift, 3534 SE Main St, 97214. Buckman Picnic Team can collect any donations of gift certificates, goods or services. Cartopia, the popular and delightfully delicious venue of food carts located at 12th and SE Hawthorne Blvd., will soon be replaced by the development of a new four-storied apartment building. The developer, Vic Remmers of Everett Custom Homes and chosen architecture firm, TVA Architects, will meet neighbors at the BCA Land Use Meeting on Thursday, July 17, 7 pm at the Multnomah County Board Room. Directly following this meeting will be the Buckman Picnic Team Meeting. All Buckman residents are welcome and encouraged to attend to provide feedback and state any concerns about the plans.

Want to help shape the future of inner SE Portland? Attend the SE Quadrant Open House, Tuesday, July 8, 4 – 7 pm at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, 2250 SE Water Ave. This event, hosted by the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, will give residents and business persons an opportunity to comment on proposed zoning changes and major clustered development sites in the SE portion of the Central City.  See what is being proposed and give your ideas.

The next BCA Meeting is Thursday, July 10, 7-9 pm at Multnomah County Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.  Land use items and a presentation from Portland Planning will be on the agenda.
