On Second Saturday, September 13, 11 am to 7 pm, a different kind of art show and a dozen or more artists will circle their mobile galleries at the Eastside Eagle Lodge, 4904 SE Hawthorne Blvd. launching the first one-day pop-up art fair on wheels this Rose City has ever seen.
The brainchild of Stephanie Wiarda and Stan Peterson of Little Art in the Trailer (a 1973 Airstream Argosy) and sponsored by PDX Magazine, Art Carts takes art exhibits from the brick-and-mortar world of building galleries directly into neighborhood streets on wheels in a colorful and expressive way.
“We’ve been showing different artists in our trailer for about six months,” says Peterson, “but our dream has been to get a bunch of art carts together.”
Ten Art Cart vehicles from trailers to trucks, feature traveling exhibits in a festive outdoor party and art sale with live music, BBQ, door prizes and plenty of outdoor art fun.
Gary Houston has created an original poster and live music has been coordinated by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. Bands are: Johnny Credit and the Cash Machine, The Mulligan Brothers and Duck Holland.
It’s a most delightful way to get a summer art fix for inspiration, edification and amusement and also to obtain new works for the walls in your home. See www.artcartspdx.com for more.
