Portland Peace Choir’s annual concert is Saturday, May 16 at Unity of Portland, 4525 SE Stark St. The concert begins at 7 pm and is a free, family-friendly event.
The concert’s theme is A Lasting Peace, the title of a new choral suite. The lyrics were inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s words. The choir is commemorating the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s second inaugural address the month before his assassination on April 14, 1865. The words are inscribed in the Lincoln Memorial.
Other Peace Choir songs on the program are from Peter, Paul and Mary, Harry Belafonte, Cat Stevens, Cyndi Lauper and Holly Near.
Portland Peace Choir is a community choir welcoming all voices. There are no auditions necessary and all skill levels are welcome.
