Board elections last month saw the BCA add five new first-time board members. The Association welcomes Joe Bloniarz, Matt Brischetto, Matt Johnson, Julie Radloff and Nate Smith to the Board. It was exciting to see so much interest in serving and each of the new members brings their own talent and interests to the neighborhood.
BCA wishes to thank outgoing members Greg Moulliet, Adam Zucker, Lauren Creany, Matt Kirkpatrick and Julie Handsaker for their years of service and energy to the BCA and Buckman neighborhoods.
All eyes now turn to the Buckman Picnic to be held Sunday, August 9, from 4-8 pm at Colonel Summers Park. There will be a free BBQ, bouncy house, games, door prizes, good music and we hope a “therapy” llama or two!
This year, more than ever, we need volunteers to help set up for the event, help clean up and serve food in shifts from 4:30-7:30 pm. Also we need help with organizing and monitoring games for children and getting donations. The picnic is 100% volunteer-run and financed, and all donations of funds, goods and services are completely tax deductible. Contact the Buckman Picnic Team to volunteer and donate: email@example.com We’d love your help!
Due to intense development of multi-storied apartment buildings, land use issues and their related livability concerns (noise, affordability, parking, loss of trees, etc.) predominate in Buckman and the BCA encourages neighbors to stay active and to testify at upcoming Comprehensive Plan Hearings. Be sure to let the Mayor and City Council members know what kind of neighborhood changes you support or are uncomfortable with regarding density, design, affordability, transportation, parks/green spaces and parking.
You can stay connected to the entire process here: www.portlandoregon.gov/bps/57352. At the monthly BCA meeting we often discuss proposed developments. BCA meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of each month, 7-9 pm at the Multnomah County Bldg., 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Next Meeting is July 9. Contact the BCA Board anytime: firstname.lastname@example.org
