Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St. has a busy April planned with film, music and community.
• Shakespeare In The Afternoon is a free series of films from the BBC library commemorating the 400th Anniversary of The Bard’s death. This four film series includes the acclaimed 1963 production of As You Like It starring a very young Vanessa Redgrave (Friday, April 29) and an update of The Taming Of The Shrew (Friday, April 8) where Kate is a bad tempered Tory politician. A Midsummer Night’s Dream screens Sunday, April 10 and King Lear on Saturday, April 23. All films show at 2 pm.
• Friday April 15, the one and only Claudia Schmidt appears in concert, beginning at 7 pm. Performing for almost four decades, Schmidt presents a quirky and wonderful hodge-podge of a musical evening extravaganza with music, poetry, story, laughter, and always celebrating the moment. Schmidt is a moving joy to hear. Her concerts are a unique look at the world from someone who sings and says what she sees with clarity, humor, and an indefatigable sense of wonder. claudiaschmidt.com. • Thursday, April 21 Healing Voices Choir presents: Music of the Movies. This lively chamber choir presents Music of the Movies with upbeat choral arrangements of songs from The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Singing in the Rain, Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s by composers Herman Hupfeld, Henry Mancini, Anthony Newley and Harold Arlen. Images from the films will be projected on the screen behind the singers.Rebecca Stuhlbarg conducts and Peter Fullerton plays piano. $15 donation benefits Vox Academy, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
