First of all thank you to everybody (businesses, neighbors, institutions and friends) on and near the Boulevard for being willing to help us create the 34th Hawthorne Street Fair within and for our community. We couldn’t do it without your support.
A couple of observations from our community volunteers:
Phil Barber, neighborhoods lover and event creator shared this:
“Richmond and Sunnyside NET had a fantastic day at the 2016 Hawthorne Street Fair, signing up nearly a hundred new volunteers for the Portland’s disaster response training program and connecting with hundreds more active and engaged neighbors from around the metro area. Between conversations, our volunteers spent quality time walking around the Fair taking in the sights, smells and sounds of our vibrant neighborhood in full bloom. Our highlights included the grassy children’s play area by Kids at Heart Toys, the human-sized foosball arena and beer garden at Bazi Bierbrasserie, and homeless advocate Pork Chop’s food truck and outreach efforts at the west end of the Fair. This year’s Hawthorne Street Fair is an example of the power of what supportive, connected and engaged community can accomplish. Overall and incredible day, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
Bridget Bayer, author of Street Fairs for Community and Profit and incredible volunteer said “Fantastic set up on Hawthorne Boulevard made this street fair especially unique! Streetfairguide.com.
