The first-ever festival in North America dedicated to the music of Estonian Orthodox composer Arvo Pärt takes place February 5 – 12 at various venues around town and presented by Cappella Romana.
The Festival features eight live performances with chamber music, the complete organ works, a cappella choral works, a late-night performance of the Passio by candlelight, the Missa Syllabica sung in a Latin mass, and a festival finale featuring Pärt’s Te Deum for three choirs, strings, and prepared piano, Da Pacem Domine and the US premiere of Alleluia-Tropus celebrating St. Nicholas.
Several events will be hosted in SE Portland (including the just added February 10 performance of Pärt & Pärcel at Studio 2 at N.E.W., 810 SE Belmont St. at 9 pm) though a couple of events have already sold out. See cappellaromana.org for updates and info.
Single tickets start as low as $12 for some events, with discounts for students and $5 Arts for All. All Access Festival Passes are available. Order online or call 503.236.8202.
