South Tabor March 2017

By Sandra Hay Magdaleno

South Tabor Neighborhood Association is being inundated with Land Use requests, issues and concerns. One is a 900 Storage Unit Building Proposed for 62nd and Powell (7 Dees site). Neighbors attended a special meeting with the developer from Austin, Texas. He is trying to change the look and feel of storage units, making them look more like an upscale office building.

The biggest issue in the development proposed is light industrial abutting a residential neighborhood. It doesn’t create jobs or add housing to the neighborhood which are priorities. The developer has asked the neighborhood for input as to colors, possible community space on the main floor and other amenities that would make the space more acceptable to the neighborhood.

We are very grateful for the Division Design Initiative that has pioneered many things we hope to adapt to Powell. More to come in the next months. To find out more or to add to the discussion please email:

The next STNA Land Use, Sustainability and Communication Committee Meetings is Tuesday, March 21, 7 – 8:30 pm at Trinity, 2700 SE 67th.  The neighborhood association meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of the month. Please join us.

P.S. All neighborhood groups on the east side are invited to our Emergency Preparedness on Saturday 5/13/17 from noon to 4 pm.  This will be an outdoor event with some great speakers, information and something for everyone to take home to add or start their emergency kit.
