Join Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) at Harrison Park, SE 84th Ave. and Harrison St., Saturday, October 17, 10 am-2 pm for an Arbor Day celebration. The day includes tree planting, Bill Naito Community Trees Award and Tree City USA awards, tree-themed activities and tabling with local non-profit organizations.
The community is invited to help plant 15 young trees in the park to add shade, beauty and cleaner air to the Jade District. Additional activities include tree identification practice, learning fun facts about common trees, visiting the tops of the trees with bucket truck rides and tree-themed arts and crafts for all ages.
Leaders from APANO will be on hand and community resources will be available from Friends of Trees, Portland Fruit Tree Project and Multnomah County Library. The Yard Tree Giveaway team will also be on hand giving away 300 free trees. To sign up in advance for a tree, visit at portland.gov/trees/find-your-free-trees/trees-your-yard.
