Be a member: The Belmont Area Business Association is having a great start to the new year with a strong start to the annual membership drive thanks in part to a drawing being held at this month’s business meeting for all businesses that have renewed or activated a BABA membership at the end of 2013 or first few weeks of 2014.

Much thanks to all the businesses on and near Belmont, Morrison and Stark contributing prizes and gifts:  Straight from New York Pizza, Baby Doll Pizza, Cosmic, Zupans, Shakti House, Carpe Diem Pilates, Hodas, Belmont EcoLaundry, Rose City Acupuncture and Tara Tibetan Collections.

Moving over and moving on: The Bicycle Repair Collective closing at 4438 Belmont has made room for local designer Flip Side Hats to expand from a small shop next door into a larger show room for Portland-designed and manufactured head wear.  Congratulations Kori Giudici on growing in Portland!

After eight years in the cupcake business, St. Cupcakes owner Jami Curl has closed down St. Cupcakes at the corner of Belmont and 33rd at the end of 2013. The sweet space for treats is reopening in early 2014 as the second location of Quin. The first Quin location is a closet-sized candy shop in the Union Way micro-retail corridor between Powell’s City of Books and the Ace Hotel. Curl sells her own caramels, marshmallows, lollipops and more.  Rumor has it, there will still be cupcakes at the Belmont store along side the new candies.

Mix and mingle: Buy your tickets now at for the Belmont Area Business Association Annual Dinner on Thursday, February 20 at Tabor Space. Great food, silent auction and business networking. $20 per person or two guests for $35.
