PORTLAND OPEN STUDIOS AT MUSE ART AND DESIGN, 4220 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Every Saturday and Sunday this month participating artists work as the public observes between noon and 5 pm as a preview of Portland Open Studios. THE CRUCIBLE, Arthur Miller’s classic Salem witch trials tale, is presented for one night by Anonymous Theatre and Theatre Vertigo August 18, 7 pm at Portland Center Stage at The Armory, 128 NW 11th Ave. Auditions are held and the identity of the cast is kept secret from the cast itself who do not know the identities of their fellow actors and do not reveal their participation in the project to anyone. The house lights dim, the play begins and each actor delivers their first lines from the audience. Cast members discover one another’s identity in front of a live audience. 17th WILLIAM BYRD FESTIVAL – This nineteen day festival features choral works by Renaissance composer Byrd (1540-1623) and his teacher, Thomas Tallis (1505-1585). The music begins Friday, Aug. 8, 7:30 pm, with a selection of English cathedral anthems from four generations of teachers and students. The final concert is Sunday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 pm.
