Brothers of the Baladi, the internationally-minded Oregon group fusing rock music with Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Armenian music, celebrate the 15th anniversary of their best-selling holiday record, A Time of Peace. The concert party is Sunday Dec. 14, at 6:30 pm at Vie de Boheme, 1530 SE 7th Ave, and tickets are $5 at the door. Special guest bellydancer Zahara will be performing as well.
The CD is the first collection of European Christmas music recorded with acoustic Middle Eastern instruments and percussion. The Brothers will feature music from their new unreleased recording, Gravity of Love, original songs, traditional Middle Eastern songs and holiday selections from A Time of Peace.
Vocalist/percussionist Michael Beach sings in Arabic, Farsi, Armenian, Spanish and English; Clark Salisbury alternates on the oud, Turkish saz and guitar while bassist J. Michael Kearsey and drummer Charles Pike hold down the infectious backbeats. See these wesbsites for more: www.baladi.com, zaharabellydancer.com and www.viedebohemepdx.com.
