Red Yarn and The Deep Woods

Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson) is a family performer with a new musical puppet film called The Deep Woods. The 23 minute film has a hometown premiere Saturday December 6, at Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St. It has been funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council as a pilot episode for a potential TV/web series for kids.

Immersed in American folksong anthologies and the Br’er Rabbit story cycle, Furgeson created his Red Yarn persona to share his animal folksongs with a wider audience. He has performed for families each week leading puppetry and music residencies in schools.

A huge creative team came together to produce the film including celebrated LA filmfolk, Portland visual artist Ryan Bruce as art director and Portland’s thriving puppet community, with 14 puppeteers wrangling up to 20 puppets in a single shot.

The film will be screened at 3:30 pm and 5 pm and includes live music, puppetry and Q&A with the film’s creators and its puppet cast. Tickets are $5/person, is for all ages and is ADA accessible. www.brownpapertickets.com/event/940973. www.redyarnproductions.com
