OPB’s new podcast, Relative Fiction, by Portland author and artist, Nicole Georges is a six-part series based on Georges’ award-winning 2013 graphic memoir, Calling Dr. Laura.
When Georges was two years old, her mother and half-sisters told her her father was dead. She was 23 and living in Portland when a friend’s gift of a psychic reading confirmed her deep-seated suspicions: he was still alive.
Her sister admitted the psychic was right, and Georges is told the whole family had conspired to keep him a secret. Piecing together different stories she was told about her father and why he was kept away from her is the series focus. She narrates the series herself and features interviews with family, therapists and psychics.
