Reclaimed Creations Exhibit

From sweeping schools of fish to galloping horses suspended mid-stride, SAYAKA GANZ: RECLAIMED CREATIONS transforms discarded plastic objects into breathtaking works of motion and energy. On view at OMSI (and included with museum admission) Wednesday, July 1-Wednesday, September 30, this installation features 18 sculptures by internationally recognized artist Sayaka Ganz, whose work blurs the line between sculpture, painting and environmental reflection.
Using reclaimed materials, such as plastic utensils, baskets, toys and other everyday objects, Ganz creates dynamic animal forms that seem to surge through space. From a distance, the sculptures appear fluid and unified—almost alive. Up close, visitors discover the intricate layers of individual objects that make each piece possible. Ganz describes her artistic approach as “3D impressionism,” using color, repetition and movement much like a painter uses brushstrokes on canvas.
Born in Yokohama, Japan, and raised across Japan, Brazil and Hong Kong, Ganz draws from a global perspective shaped by themes of interconnectedness, balance and renewal. Her sculptures invite visitors to look beyond chaos and reconsider the hidden beauty within discarded materials. The result is an exhibit that is equal parts art installation, environmental conversation and optical illusion.
Ganz’s work has been exhibited internationally and commissioned by institutions including the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Exploration Tower in Florida. At OMSI, guests will experience her vibrant creations up close, discovering how reclaimed objects can become something unexpectedly powerful, elegant and full of life.
