More than a fun challenge, juggling has been scientifically proven to increase neuroplasticity, reduce stress and improve posture. Try this 4,000-year-old sport at Reed College’s Aubrey Watzek Sports Center during the 34th Annual Portland Juggling Festival & Vaudeville Extravaganza Friday, September 25-Sunday, September 27.
The playful community of Portland Jugglers invites the public to “drop everything and juggle,” whether you’re a one ball newbie or a practiced pro. There will be workshops for all skill levels plus prop vendors, practice spaces and truly unique games like quarter juggling (last one juggling gets them all).
If you want to stretch your mind and muscles beyond playing catch with balls and clubs, the festival has poi, yoyo, unicycles, hula-hoops and other props. “We’re very inclusive of toys and people,” says founding Portland Juggler Rhys Thomas.
Saturday night’s family friendly Juggling & Vaudeville Extravaganza showcases jaw-dropping skills and tons of humor, performed by talented local and internationally touring artists. Tickets for the Extravaganza are $35 adults, $30 children/students/seniors. Also available are general festival weekend passes ($35) and weekend passes plus Extravaganza ticket ($60).
