After their hilarious turn in last year’s Savannah Sipping Society, Helen Raptis and Beth Willis return in the hit off-Broadway show Pen Pals at triangle productions! Thursday, November 19-Sunday, December 6. Written by Michael Griffo, who has taken his mother’s stories and turned them into an evening of entertainment, the play follows Bernie (Raptis), who lives in New Jersey, and Mags (Willis) who lives in Sheffield, England, and their friendship that unfolds over decades.
The characters began writing letters as 14-year-olds, sharing trivial bits, the most intimate details, all the happiness and all the heartache, but never met. The play is an extended flashback where they read letters sent to each other over the past 50 years. They age before the audience as they tell the stories of their lives without the aid of costumes, make-up or wigs.
90-minute shows (no intermission) run Thursdays (7 pm), Fridays (7:30 pm), Saturdays (7:30 pm) and two Sundays (November 29 and December 6, 2 pm). Tickets ($5 Arts For All, $20-$40 general admission) available at trianglepro.org/pen-pals, by calling the box office (503.239.5919) or at the door.
