Multnomah County began mailing roughly 300,000 property tax statements and value notices mid-October. Property owners should receive their statements by Sunday, November 1.
Property tax payments are due Monday, November 16 (as the statutory November 15 deadline falls on a Sunday). Oregon state law establishes the deadline for property tax payments and mandates interest charges on delinquent accounts. Multnomah County does not have the legal authority to extend the payment deadline or waive interest on late payments.
Taxpayers can lower their total obligation by taking advantage of full or partial payment discounts. 2026 property taxes paid in full by November 16 and payments postmarked by that date receive a three percent discount. For 2026 property tax payments that are two-thirds of the amount due, a two percent discount will apply to payments received or postmarked by November 16.
Flexible payment options are also available through installment plans for those managing payments over time. Taxes may be paid, without discount, in three equal installments due November 16, 2026, February 16, 2027 and May 17, 2027.
There are multiple ways property taxes can be paid. Online, visit proptax.multco.us to view options, including direct bank transfer (electronic check), which is the most secure and convenient method. Convenience fees apply.
Call 833.428.8101 to pay by phone using the automated Tyler Payments system, accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Payment options include electronic check, debit card or credit card. Convenience fees apply.
Another option is to use the secure outdoor drop box at the Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Checks (no cash) is the only payment option allowed.
To pay in person, visit the Multnomah County Division of Assessment, Recording and Taxation Office located on the first floor of the Multnomah Building. The office is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. During peak payment weeks wait times may be longer than usual.
Payments can also be mailed to PO Box 2716, Portland, OR 97208-2716. Payments must be postmarked by November 16 to be considered timely. The county recommends mailing payments early to prevent postmarking delays at the post office.
County staff process payment in the order received. All Multnomah County offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
Each property tax envelope includes an insert with a QR code directing taxpayers to the county’s online tax statement guide. The guide explains payment methods, statement terminology and assessment details. Translated guides are available in six languages at multco.us/tax-statement.
If the statement you received is yellow, that indicates that another party (such as a mortgage lender or the Oregon Department of Revenue) has requested the bill. Taxpayers receiving yellow statements should check with that party before paying the bill themselves.
Property taxes support local taxing districts across Multnomah County. Tax rates fluctuate annually based on voter-approved bonds and levies, or when existing bonds or levies expire. Taxing districts encompass school districts as well as local government agencies, including cities, Metro, TriMet, the Port of Portland and local fire, water and special assessment districts.
