Buckman Community Association invites neighbors from Buckman as well as other inner eastside and Central City neighborhoods to our 2016 General Election Forum, Thursday, Oct. 13, from 7-9 pm at the Multnomah County Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

The Board meeting will precede the forum from 6:20-7 pm. Highlighting the forum will be candidates for City Commissioner Position 4, incumbent Steve Novick and challenger Chloe Eudaly, County Commission Position 1, Eric Zimmerman and Sharon Meieran, as well as representatives from the respective campaigns for “Yes” and “No” on Measure 97, the new proposed statewide corporate tax.

The forum will be moderated and timed, and candidates will field questions from the audience, allowing for response and rebuttal. Refreshments will be served at the break and all are welcome!

On Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 pm, the BCA Land Use Committee will hear from the developer about plans to build a large 6-storied “L-shaped” building along SE 12th and SE Ankeny between 11th and 12th avenues. This proposal must meet design review standards and there is opposition related to context from neighbors in adjacent Victorian homes.

Last month, the committee heard about plans for a seven-story mixed use development on 12th and SE Belmont at Bradshaw’s Transmissions. Buckman neighbors interested in, concerned about or wanting to weigh in on future development plans, historic preservation, transportation changes and parking needs are asked to regularly attend our monthly land use meetings held every third Thursday of the month , 7-8:30 pm in the Multnomah County Board Room.

Regular monthly Association meetings are held each second Thursday. The BCA seeks volunteers to help deliver our quarterly newsletter, The Buckman Voice as well as to serve on and help promote projects for the Sustainability Committee.
